SWAAN4RLBERG

Can you spell "SWAAN4RLBERG"?

Yes, yes, that's right. You got it.
It's hard, isn't it? (laughs)

I can almost hear you all saying, "It's too hard!"

This time, we'll be introducing the origin of the brand name "SWAAN4RLBERG" andthe origin of its spelling.

The spelling is...

✗ SWANALBERG
✗ SWAANALBREG
◎SWAAN4RLBERG

The "SWAAN" part isn't SWAN, but SWAAN with two A's.
The "ARLBERG" part is also irregular, not ARLBERG but 4RLBERG.
It's not an A, but the number 4.

Oh, it's confusing... (laughs)
In fact, even I, a staff member, still sometimes misspell it.
I always tell myself, "Swaan has two A's, and ARLBERG has a 4!" as I
type on the keyboard (laughs).

Now, let's get to the main topic.
I'll explain the mystery behind the brand name SWAAN4RLBERG!

▶ Where did the name "SWAAN4RLBERG" come from?

It originated in Austria!

When launching our factory brand,
we struggled to decide on a brand name.
Various ideas were proposed internally, but one that stood out
came from a staff member's experience at the Austrian ski resort "Arlberg."

One day, when a staff member visited Arlberg, he had the opportunity to see a white bird with a local shoemaker.
The moment he encountered that scenery, the word "SWAAN4RLBERG" suddenly came to his mind.
* We decided to pronounce Arlberg as "Arlberg" due to its pleasant sound in Japanese.
* By the way, the bird they saw together was a white bird, not a swan (laughs).

Its unique sound, combined with the scenery he saw with the local shoemaker, made us feel it would be perfect for our new brand.

▶ The mystery of the spelling "SWAAN4RLBERG"

Was it actually a child's mistake??? Why is there a double "A" in SWAAN?

After the brand name SWAAN4RLBERG was decided, the next problem we faced was the [logo mark].
While creating multiple logo proposals, a staff member's young child tried to draw the logo by imitation, andwrote the [A] of ARLBERG as [4], which led to an unexpected idea.

We felt, "How cute!", and decided to adopt that playful, slightly tilted "A" that looked like a 4.

Although the swan is spelled "SWAN," the "SWAAN" in SWAAN4RLBERG is spelled with two A's.
The double "A" is another point that often confuses everyone, but...
"SWAAN" is a combination of the Dutch word for swan, "ZWAAN" (pronounced "zwaan"), and the English spelling "SWAN."
We added a touch of playfulness to the spelling of "swan" as well.

We hope that this story behind SWAAN4RLBERG
will help you feel a little closer to our brand.
